The European Group for Public Administration has, already for 35 years now, as its ambition to be the nexus for academics and reflexive practitioners in the field of Public Administration in Europe. As the European 'chapter' within the International Institute of Administrative Sciences, it is realising these ambitions with an open attitude to our colleagues in Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, the United States of America and all the national sections that are members of the Institute. The group is organising a successful annual conference, is investing in different dialogues, invites young PhD candidates to present and discuss their research and tries to safeguard the European traditions in public administration by organizing access to a database of publications in different European languages (PA@Babel). The core of EGPA are its 15 permanent study groups that meet at least once a year to present and discuss research and to prepare publications. EGPA is a community of researchers, and is closely collaborating with EUPAN (a European Network of Directors-General) and EAPA (an organization that is responsible for the accreditation of programmes in public administration all over Europe).  EGPA is also a community of people who believe that the future quality of public service needs a continuous investment in fundamental, empirical and comparative research. It has a special mission to be a platform: for young scholars in the field, for those who teach and supervise research, and for those who acknowledge the importance of learning.
