2007 - Pavia
The Group held a working meeting on 21 April 2007 hosted by the University of Pavia with the following heme: The Comparative Administrative History of Population Migration, 1800 to the Present. .
During the meeting the Group unanimously decided that Stefan Fisch (Germany) should become the new Chairperson. The Group praised the retiring Chairperon, Fabio Rugge (Italy) for his excellent leadership and devotion to the Group’s research since he agreed to be Chair in 2000.
- Project Group on Migration: Rapporteurs Peri Arnold (United States) and Vida Azimi (France)
Draft country studies were presented and discussed on the theme: “The Comparative Administrative History of Population Migration, 1800 to the Present”. The Rapporteurs suggested that the theme be narrowed, that attention be focused on the administrative mechanisms/tools developed in each country to cope with migration problems over time. This would be the key to developing the comparative chapter and conclusions. After a stimulating discussion on how best to advance the study, the Group agreed with the Rapporteurs.
Preliminary papers will thus be based on this particular orientation and will be submitted to Rapporteurs by 1 December 2007. The Rapporteurs will then have sufficient time to make comments/suggestions. Final papers for publication will be submitted by mid-March 2008.
