The Working Group met in Granada (Spain) on Saturday, 29 April at the kind invitation of the University of Granada. The Group’s host was Professor Gregoio Núñez who welcomed the Group on behalf of the Facultad de Empresariales, Departamento de Teoría e Historia económica, Universidad de Granada, Campus de Cartuja.
The Groups participants, who have been preparing country studies this year on the theme of “The Administration of Historical, Artistic and Cultural Heritage”, presented their papers based on a framework that had been drawn up by the Rapporteur, Stefan Fisch at the last meeting. The country studies presented and discussed were: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom and United States. As a concluding chapter, Stefan Fisch will now draw up - and circulate to the Group - a comparative chapter that will set out the commonalities and differences concerning how heritage is managed in the various countries. Final and revised versions of country studies and the comparative report will be submitted for publication by the end of July. The Group’s study will then be published in the last quarter of 2006.
Possible new research themes were then discussed. Several topics were debated but the Group’s final choice was the topic of migration. The Co-Rapporteurs selected to develop the theme and prepare guidelines were: Peri Arnold (United States) and Vida Azimi (France). Their guidelines will be circulated to the Group in September 2006 and will be made available on our website.
The Group’s next meeting be held on 21 April 2007. However the venue still remains to be decided.
On the Sunday morning following the Working Group meeting, Professor Núñez organized a trip for the participants to visit the Alhambra which was very much appreciated by all who took part.
