Summary
The project group deals in two-year projects with important tasks of public administration in a comparative manner. General questions are, how the need to deal with the problem was perceived, which aims for administrative action were given, and how and by which specific means administrative action was performed. The comparative perspective is a double one, over time, regarding the fundamental changes of the last two centuries in a given country, and over space, in a comparison of national case studies from three continents.
The projects to be presented include “The institutional arrangements for water management in the 19th and 20th centuries / L'organisation institutionnelle de la gestion de l'eau aux XIXe et XXe siècle” (ed. by Jos C. N. Raadschelders, Amsterdam 2005), “National approaches to the governance of historical heritage over time. A comparative report” (ed. by Stefan Fisch, Amsterdam 2008), the current project on “The Administrative History of Population Migration, 1800 to the Present” (ed. by Peri E. Arnold, 2009/2010) and the forthcoming project on “The role of Central Budget Agencies (or their functional equivalents) on government reforms” (working title).
