The statutory election of the Latin American Group for Public Administration (LAGPA) took place during its annual conference on October 10 in Cali, Colombia. Prof. Bianor Cavalcanti, outgoing president of LAGPA and newly elected President of IASIA, ceded the presidency of LAGPA to Prof. Edgar Varela Barrios from the Universidad del Valle, Colombia. Similarly, the LAGPA steering committee has been renewed. On the above picture, from left to right: Mr. Rolet Loretan, IIAS Director General, Prof. Edgar Varela Barrios, new president of LAGPA, Prof. Bianor Cavalcanti, new President of IASIA and César Rojas Alfonzo, Executive Secretary of LAGPA.

During the IIAS-IASIA Joint Congress in Chengdu, the Presidents of IIAS and IASIA were elected for their respective three years terms.

Geert Bouckaert from KU Leuven, Belgium,  was re-elected as IIAS President by the general Assembly.

Bianor Cavalcanti from the Fundação Getulio Vargas, Brazil, was elected IASIA Board of Management. He succeeds to Michiel S. de Vries who will remain in the Board as immediate past president and the IIAS/IASIA wishes to express its gratitude for his services at the head of the Association.

Congratulations to Geert and Bianor.

The Executive Editors of Developments in Administration – The e-journal of IIAS, IASIA and regional groups are pleased to inform you that the first issue of the e-journal is now available.

This e-journal aims at expanding knowledge about developments in the public administration and public sector in countries and regions not extensively covered in the major journals in Public Administration and this issue issue covers countries and topics such a Sustainable development, alternative public service deliveries, decision-making in times of crisis in Brazil, public service quality and perception in Qatar and public service failures in Nigeria and Ghana.

Developments in Administration is only available electronically. You can download the whole journal as a PDF document, or choose to read individual article (as a PDF or on the website).

We hope that you will find this new publication initiative enriching and if you would like to contribute to the next issue, do not hesitate to read the journal’s focus and requirements.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and heartfelt thoughts to those who have been injured. We stand in solidarity with the government and people of France.

We have the pleasure to announce that Juraj Nemec was elected president of NISPACee during its annual conference that just took place in Zagreb. Juraj is Professor of Public Finance and Public Management, at Masaryk University (Czech Republic) and a long-time friend of IASIA/IIAS. He is further involved in IASIA’s management as Vice-President for Publications.

ipbesIPBES invites the nomination of experts for Deliverable 2(c): Global assessment on biodiversity and ecosystem services and Deliverable 3(biii): Sustainable Use of Biodiversity.

Following the outcome of the fourth session of the Plenary (Decision IPBES-4/1, section III, para. 3, and section IV, para.5) and in line with the agreed procedures for the preparation of the Platform’s deliverables, Governments and other relevant stakeholders are invited to nominate experts to participate in:

  1. the Global Assessment on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (Deliverable 2c);
  2. the workshop to further scope the thematic assessment of the Sustainable Use of Biodiversity (Deliverable 3biii).

In addition, following decision IPBES-4/1, section I, para.1, Governments and relevant institutions and organizations are invited to nominate fellows to:

  1. the IPBES Fellowship Pilot Programme, to participate in the Global Assessment on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.

Prof. Andrew Podger is congratulated on his award by IIAS Director General, Rolet Loretan

The IIAS is proud to announce that, on March 22, 2016, Prof. Andrew Podger received ASPA’s ” International Public Administration Award” during the closing ceremony of the annual conference of the American Society for Public Administration in Seattle, WA.

This award recognises a personality for outstanding commitments in the area of international public administration which is what Andrew has been working for, not only within the IIAS and ASPA but also within the Greater China Area (People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao), Indonesia and other South East Asian countries..

Andrew has served in the Australian public services for many years and is Professor of Public Policy at the Australian National University.

In the aftermath of the senseless terrorist attacks at its headquarter city of Brussels, the IIAS Family would like to express its thanks to all of those who have reached out to us. The IIAS team is safe and sound, but more importantly, we wish to send our deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims and heartfelt thoughts to those who have been injured.
