The IIAS is proud to announce that its immediate past President, Pan-suk Kim, has been appointed by Korean President Moon Jae-in as a new Minister in the Ministry of Personnel Management (www.mpm.go.kr). “As a scholar specializing in personnel and administrative affairs, he has contributed to developing the nation’s public personnel system. He is strong in both theory and practical affairs,” presidential spokesman Soo-hyun Park said.

Pan Suk Kim , a member of the IIAS Council of Administration, served as President of IIAS between 2010 and 2013 and was a member of IASIA’s Board of Management for several years and served as a Vice Chairperson of the UN Committee of Experts on Public Administration (UNCEPA).

We wish Pan-suk Kim the best in his new position and look forwards to strengthen the ties between our Member state of Korea and the Institute.

This 6 June, we had the pleasure to welcome at the IIAS new headquarter our colleague, Mr. César Rojas Alfonzo, Executive Secretary of the Latin American Group for Public Administration (LAGPA), the IIAS regional entity.

Aside from paying the Institute a visit, César was here to debrief the IIAS Congress in Aix-en-Provence where he represented LAGPA President,  Prof. Edgar Varela Barrios, but also to discuss next year’s planned Joint Conference with the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA).

We are happy to announce that Dr. Sofiane Sahraoui was appointed as the new Director general of the IIAS during the Council of Administration meeting in February 2017. He took his office on May 2nd, succeeding Mr. Rolet Loretan who is retiring.

Mr. Loretan has held this position since November 2006 and the IIAS is grateful for his commitment during those past ten years at the head of the Permanent administrative services of the Institute and we wish him all the best in this new chapter in his life.

Dr Sahraoui is a well-known figure in the IIAS Family. A Franco-Tunisian national, he worked at the Bahrain Institute of Public Administration (BIPA) for many years. He participated to the foundation of the MENAPAR Network and is sitting at the Board of Management of our International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) as well as co-chair of its working group on “Public Policy and Decision-Making.” He was designated as General Rapporteur of the 2013 Congress of IIAS/IASIA and the 2017 IASIA/MENAPAR conference.

 

During the IIAS-IASIA Joint Congress in Chengdu, the Presidents of IIAS and IASIA were elected for their respective three years terms.

Geert Bouckaert from KU Leuven, Belgium,  was re-elected as IIAS President by the general Assembly.

Bianor Cavalcanti from the Fundação Getulio Vargas, Brazil, was elected IASIA Board of Management. He succeeds to Michiel S. de Vries who will remain in the Board as immediate past president and the IIAS/IASIA wishes to express its gratitude for his services at the head of the Association.

We have the pleasure to announce that Juraj Nemec was elected president of NISPACee during its annual conference that just took place in Zagreb. Juraj is Professor of Public Finance and Public Management, at Masaryk University (Czech Republic) and a long-time friend of IASIA/IIAS. He is further involved in IASIA’s management as Vice-President for Publications.

The IIAS is proud to announce that the President of the Italian National Section, Daria de Pretis, has been appointed judge of the Constitutional Court by the President of the Republic, Girogio Napolitano.

The swearing in front of the President, of the judges from the Constitutional Court took place at the Palazzo Quirinale on November 11, 2014. Daria de Pretis and Nicolò Zanon were appointed by a decree from the Head of State on October 18, 2014. Besides, Silvanna Sciarra was elected by the Parliament during the November 6, 2014 session.

Attended the event: Pietro Grasso (President of the Senate), Laura Boldrini (President of the House), Matteo Renzi (President of the Council of Ministers ), Paolo Maria Nopolitano (Senior judge of the Constitutional Court), Constitutional judges in place, previous Presidents and judges and other State Members.

Photo Geert BouckaertThe IIAS is pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Geert Bouckaert was elected as its new President.

On 2nd June, the IIAS General Assembly held during the 2013 Joint Congress of IIAS-IASIA unanimously elected as President of IIAS Prof Dr Geert Bouckaert from the Public Management Institute of KU Leuven (Belgium).

He took his functions at the end of the Congress and is elected for a three year mandate.

The IIAS is proud to inform that Fabio Rugge was elected Rector of the University of Pavia, Italy.

Prof. Rugge is the first rector of the University of Pavia coming from the humanities in nearly 70 years.

An active member of the Institute for many years, he is, among other, the Rapporteur of the IIAS Project group on “The history of public administration.” The IIAS is conveying its warmest congratulations and wishes of future success in his important function.
